Timeless and Respectful Design

As they were created for an olympiad, the design removed the religious symbols usually accompanying chess. Thus, for example, the king's cross and bishop's mitre that usually identify the knight were eliminated, making them the most respectful chess pieces of all cultures.

Stauton Size 6 Plumbings

If you thought these were chess pieces intended for a showcase, you're wrong. They are manufactured following the Staunton standard and they have been given a triple weight at their base to give them great stability and plumb. Their main use should be for classical-speed games, since you won't want these beautiful pieces to end up rolling on the floor with a single bang when you play a one-minute game, right?. They are made to play, but to play WELL.

Triple Plumbing, What is it For?

Usually high-quality pieces have a weight ("plumb") at their base, giving them stability when handling pieces so that they do not easily tilt or move from the square. Having additional weight is a highly valued, almost luxurious, feature, as you can "feel" the moves you make on the board. A good chess player will recognize it with just the first pawn move. It’s a pleasure!

Do you Collect or Play With Them?

If you like the history related to these wonderful chess tournaments where new theory was almost discovered on each of these games, you should consider getting a Dubrovnik model set
