Ebony wood

Ebony wood is a classic and luxurious choice for chess pieces. Ebony is known for its dark, almost black color, with very fine, sometimes barely visible grain. It is one of the densest and heaviest woods and is extremely resistant to moisture. It has a fine, uniform texture with a smooth grain.

Ebony originates primarily in Africa, in countries such as Gabon, Mozambique, and Madagascar. It is also found in some regions of Asia, such as India and Sri Lanka. The trees that produce this wood belong to the Diospyros genus.

Chess pieces made of ebony are not only functional but also true collectibles, adding an air of sophistication to any game. Each piece, with its smooth, polished finish, reflects the elegance and masterful craftsmanship of this precious wood.

About Sinquefield Cup

Sinquefield Cup is an elite chess tournament that brings together the best chess players on the planet. It is held annually at the Saint Louis Chess Club in St. Louis, Missouri, and is part of the Grand Chess Tour. Founded in 2013 and named after Rex and Jeanne Sinquefield, the club's founders, this tournament has become one of the most important events in the world of chess.

In the 2016 edition, which used the same model of pieces (you can see them in the video), the chess players who participated in the tournament were: Wesley So, Levon Aronian, Veselin Topalov, Viswanathan Anand, Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Ding Liren, Peter Svidler, and Anish Giri.

Truly luxurious chess pieces

The Sinquefield 2016 Ebony pieces are a work of art and a prized collector's set. Masterfully hand-carved from highly prized ebony (black) and boxwood (white), the triple weight added to the base makes playing with these pieces a luxurious and beautiful experience.

Whether for a leisurely game at home with family and friends, replaying games with a good chess book, or as a decorative object in your favorite corner, this luxury chess set will last a lifetime.
